Buddy Reading
The Teton Literacy Program offers elementary students one-on-one tutoring
at the end of their school day. Tutor and student work on reading and
writing activities determined by the student's teacher and TLP staff.
Students and tutors meet in the child's classroom one day per week from
3:30-4:30 p.m. The TLP Children’s Program staff provides training
and support for the tutors throughout their experience.
Time Commitment: 1 hour teaching
- ½ hour prep time per week for 6 months.
After School Tutor Program
The Teton Literacy Program offers an intensive program for elementary
students in grades one and two. The program begins in September and continues
through the end of March. Students and tutors meet at the TLP office from
3:45-4:45 two days per week. Lesson plans are written by staff, and trained
tutors work one-on-one with a student following the lesson plan to develop
reading and writing skills. Ongoing support and training is provided to
tutors throughout their experience.
Time Commitment: 2 hours per week
for the duration of the program.
Classroom Support
The Teton Literacy Program offers classroom support to elementary school
teachers. Trained volunteers enter the classroom on a day and time specified
by the teacher and may work one-on-one with a student or a small group
of students. Teachers provide the direction and materials to assist the
volunteer while working with students.
Time Commitment: 1 hour per week
for 6 months.
