Parent Resources

Teton Literacy Program strives to provide parent resources to encourage family literacy activities at home. Quarterly newsletters are written by Teton Literacy staff with parent information and ideas to promote literacy at home. We also offer parent workshops throughout the year. Please contact program staff for a current workshop schedule or with possible workshop topics.

After School Tutoring

Tutors work one-on-one with struggling readers 1st through 5th grade. Lessons plans are prepared by Teton Literacy Program and tailored to fit the individual needs of each student. Tutors volunteer at least 1 hour a week working with students Monday through Thursday at the Teton Literacy Program offices. Students enrolled in the program typically read 1-2 years below grade level and are referred by Teton County School District teachers.

In School Tutoring Program

In classrooms, volunteers assist teachers for literacy “Power Hour” during regular school hours. Teachers provide all of the tutoring materials and volunteers work in small groups or one-on-one with students. In school tutoring allows literacy enrichment for a diverse group of students that might not be able to attend after school tutoring sessions.

Enrichment Classes

Collaborating with other Jackson non-profits, Teton Literacy Program offers after school classes and clubs to enrich reading, writing, and language skills for elementary students. Classes are typically one hour long once a week after school. Teachers foster creative growth and literacy through arts, music, and language. Previous collaborating partners have included the Art Association and Teton County Parks and Recreation Department.

Teton County School District Writing Projects

Working with Teton County schools and Journey’s school, Teton Literacy Program facilitates pairing community artists and writers with first, second, and fifth grade classrooms to help students conceptualize, create, write, edit, and illustrate creative pieces. These poems and non-fiction and fiction stories are published and students have the opportunity to exhibit their creativity and hard work at “publishing parties”.
